Collyn Wooden Obituary

Collyn Leigh Wooden went home to be with the Lord on March 9, 2025, at the age of 68. Just seven weeks after her cancer diagnosis, she passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving daughters and granddaughters. She faced her illness with grace, strength, and unwavering faith.
Collyn was born on June 23, 1956 in Grand Rapids, Michigan the daughter of Doris and Danford Richmond. She spent her formative years in Grandville, Michigan and graduated from Grandville High School in 1974. After briefly attending Oregon Bible College, she pursued a career in retail and hospitality. She also found purpose in working with adults who had developmental disabilities, and managed a group home business in her own home for a number of years.
Collyn graduated from Western Michigan Adult & Teen Challenge in 1989. Attending the Adult & Teen Challenge program was life changing for Collyn and eventually brought her to Ohio where she worked at the Adult & Teen Challenge located in the city of Columbus. Collyn moved back to Grand Rapids, MI in 2023 where she lived with her beloved cat, Shadow.
In her free time, Collyn enjoyed creative pursuits like jewelry-making, beading, and art. Her sisters' best memories with her were summers spent on Gun Lake together; roller skating in their basement; adventures in their red Plymouth Fury convertible; and listening to the Herman's Hermits record over and over. Collyn found comfort and strength in her faith in God and faced life's many challenges with resilience.
Collyn is preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, her aunts and uncles, and her son, Kiel James, who was born too soon and welcomed directly into the arms of Jesus. She is survived by her sisters, Shilah (Stephen) Richard and Brooke (Scott) Cohoon; daughters Anissa (Jermale) Eddie and Ariane Adkins; and her grandchildren, Maliya, Madysen, Malachi, Nehemiah, and Josiah. She is also survived by her Aunt Gloria Prak, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and many cherished friends.
A celebration of life will be held on April 15, 2025. More details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Western Michigan Adult & Teen Challenge.

Collyn's unwavering faith, kindness, and creativity will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
