Dorothy Jean (Williams) Jones

Dorothy Jean “Dori” Jones of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on September 22, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family with her favorite shows, Andy Griffith and Golden Girls playing in the background. Later, as she fell asleep for the last time, Roberta Flack played as a sweet melody in the background.  

Dorothy was born on April 13, 1938 to James Edwards Williams and Dorothy Mae (Suttles) Williams in Cassopolis, Michigan.  She was the sixth of nine children.

In 1957, Dorothy married Wesley A. Jones and went on to have three children together. She then happily retired after 34 years of service to the State of Michigan Office of Workforce Development in Lansing. She enjoyed her retirement as an avid bowler and world traveler.  Dorothy also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and reading books by her favorite author, James Patterson. 

Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother and devoted friend.  She is survived by her sisters Mae Warrick and Nell Guy; three children William (Teresa) Jones, Debra Jones and Valinda Stokes; four grandchildren Tashara, Terrell, Terence and Jasmine; and seven great grand children Charlie, Milah, Josiah, R.J., Akua, Neema and Cita. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Dorothy, brothers James and Cecil, sisters Ruth, Helen, Thelma and Mary.

A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, September 29 at 12:00 noon at Brown’s Funeral Home at 627 Jefferson Ave SE in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, September 28 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
