Ernestine May Obituary
Ernestine May, age 69, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on Friday, May
27, 2022. Ernestine was born on August 16, 1953 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to
Mae Lizzie Burrel and the late L.C. Burrel. Ernestine leaves behind so many to
cherish her memory including her two children Gregory May Jr. and Alicia May,
her siblings Annie Taylor, L. C. Burrel Jr and Ricky Burrel(Pam Burrel) and her
grandchildren Gregory May III, Natalie May, Darrien May and Izabel May.
Ernestine is preceded in death by her brothers James Burrel, Slyvester Burrel,
and Lester Burrel. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
aunts, uncles, friends and coworkers.
After contributing 25 years of service, Ernestine retired from Zondervan
Publishing Company as an Executive Administrative Assistant. She loved
working for Zondervan and wasn't quite ready to retire however, she was
diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease(MSA) which caused her to have to leave
Zondervan.
Before her health declined Ernestine loved to travel with her family, have family
game nights, go to the movies, go shopping, bowling, watching the Detroit
Pistons play and loved visiting with friends and family. She absolutely loved
spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren and her God daughter(great
niece) Shakura. Family was always at the center of her heart and life.
Ernestine had a heart of gold, always wanting to help people. She was intelligent,
funny, resilient, a planner, organizer, giver and sympathetic individual. She will
be truly missed. Her love and legacy will live on through all that loved her.
