Georgia Johnson went home to be with the Lord after a short battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her absence, one birth daughter, Kimberly Johnson, of Grand Rapids, two God daughters Shawn Grant of Rochester Hills, and Amanda Pacic also of Grand Rapids, and several cousins.
Georgia was born in Hughes, Arkansas and came to the Grand Rapids area at the age of six. She attended South High School and graduated in 1962.
Georgia worked many years at St. Mary’s Hospital ( now called Mercy Health) in medical records. Then she decided to follow her calling to be a teacher and worked for Headstart for Kent County until she retired.
After six months of retirement ,Georgia decided to go back to work as a Foster Grandparent with Senior Neighbors, as an aid the kindergarten room at Brookwood School in Kindergarten.
Georgia also loved gardening and loving her chihuahua, Daisy Joy.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elnora Ward and step father John Wesley Ward.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday July 24, 2020 at 12 o’clock. The family will greet friends one hour prior before the service.
The celebration will be held at Kentwood Community Church, Pastors Michael Braden and Neva Swinson officiating.
