Georgia Lee Miller, lovingly known to all as Mother Miller, was born on November 24, 1947, in
Montgomery, Alabama, to Sammie Mae Thomas and George Rankins. She spent her early years in
Montgomery before relocating to Grand Rapids, Michigan, with her children in October 1979,
seeking a brighter future for them.Mother Miller worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Old’s Manor Nursing Home formany years. Her caring heart and dedication to others were evident in her work. However, aftersustaining an injury, she was forced to retire from her role. But true to her resilient spirit, sherefused to sit still. Mother Miller later joined Professional Maintenance, where she workeddiligently to clean the Kent County Courthouse, the Friend of the Court, and other office buildingsuntil her retirement.In June of 2018, Mother Miller suffered a stroke that left her with limited mobility on her left side.But those who knew her can attest that no challenge could diminish her indomitable will. Shecontinued to push through her difficulties, determined to live life on her terms. Her strongpersonality and independent spirit were a constant, even as she and her son Michael would oftenengage in lively debates—one of her many ways of asserting herself. As always, Mother Millerremained victorious in her decisions!Mother Miller gave her life to Christ in 1993 at Nativity COGIC in Grand Rapids, now AnointedPraise Ministries, under the leadership of Dr. Dennis R. Robinson. Over the years, she served innumerous roles within the church until her health, affected by the stroke, prevented her fromdoing so.Mother Miller was preceded in death by her parents, Sammie Mae Thomas and George Rankins;her son, Dominique Miller; brothers, Irvin West, Tyron West, and Richard Thomas (whom shelovingly raised as her son after the passing of his mother); sister, Victoria Thomas; niece, Paula Gill;and nephew, Derrick Long.Mother Miller leaves behind a cherished family who will forever carry her love and memory. Hersister, Antionette Springs-Wright; sons, Willie (Jamie) Miller II, Michael Miller, and bonus sons,Brian (Daneen) Stone, Garland McClain, Demarcus (Lindsay) Billups, and Brian Heard; daughters,Stephanie (Dennis) Robinson, Kimberly (Christian) Feighner, and Tyrus Miller; grandchildren,Brandlyn Turner, Stesha Miller-Jones, Michael Miller, Jazzmin Applewhite, Anthony (RaShawn)Mitchell-Jones, Tevin Howell, Preston Miller, Emmanuel Key, Willie Miller III, Tyriq Miller, andCalvin Thomas; 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren; nephew, Xavier (Debra)Springs; niece, Trina Springs; special friends, Nellie Green-Nelson and Carmen LaGrone; and a hostof other family and friends.Mother Miller’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family was the light of her life, and she made sure to cherish every momentwith them. To know Mother Miller was to love her—her strength, wisdom, and unwavering lovetouched everyone who met her. She was, in every way, perfect to those who were blessed to callher family. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and strength will live on in all of us.
