Harvey “Honey Bunch” Lewis Cage, a pillar of strength and generosity, passed away
peacefully on April 6, 2024, in North Las Vegas, Nevada. He was 74 years old. Harvey
was the son of Leanna Elizabeth Walker Grimes and blessed with two fathers, Edward
Earl Cage Sr. and Marshall P. Grimes.
Harvey attended Saginaw High School in Saginaw, MI, graduating in 1968. He went on
to get an Associates from Delta College graduating in 1972 where he assisted with
creating the first Civil Rights group on campus. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in
Education from University of Michigan in 1973. Harvey continued his education and in
1974 he earned a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Michigan, leading
him on a path that would touch and change so many lives.
Harvey’s career with Grand Rapids Public Schools began in 1975, where he would
remain for 31 years before retiring. Beyond the confines of the classroom, Harvey, was
known for his dedication to his students well-being, offering guidance, encouragement,
and a listening ear to all who sought his counsel. His impact extended far beyond
academic achievements he inspired confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose in
all those interested in higher education.
Harvey demonstrated an entrepreneurial flare from a young age selling eggs with his
Father for extra money. This early experience laid the foundation for Harvey’s future
ventures. Harvey founded Mr. Smoothies, The Beauty Cage and CSN Tax Service just
to name a few. Through his leadership these companies grew into thriving ventures,
creating jobs and opportunities for many. Beyond his professional achievements,
Harvey will be remembered for his generosity, mentorship, and passion for making a
difference. The legacy of Harvey lives on in those he inspired and his entrepreneurial
spirit will continue to guide and inspire future generations of business leaders.
Harvey leaves to cherish his memories his wife Jacqueline Louissaint-Cage of North
Las Vegas, NV; six daughters, Dena (Tyrone) Waddell, Taneya (Antoine Coleman) Cage
both of Ypsilanti, MI, Denita Cage of Muskegon, MI, Darnika Bunting of Atlanta, GA,
Donniece Jackson of Las Vegas, NV and Shayla (John) Gist, of Grand Rapids, MI; three
sons, Kenya (Miguel) Williams of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jahan Shumpert of Atlanta GA,
and Aaron (Crystal) Parker of Kihei, HI; 31 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Sisters, Rose “Dixie” (Von) Nickleberry and Debra (Wayne) Meekins of Saginaw, MI,
Bobbie (John) Ray of Chicago, IL, Carol (Femi) Odeleye of Salt Lake City, UT, Veletta
(Leo) Cummings of Conway, AR, Taititius “Tina” Cage, Lettie Hall, Michelle Monroe, and
Maureen Jackson of Las Vegas, NV, Jacqueline Stevenson of Monroe, LA and Angela
Cage of Texas. Brothers, Edward (Tracy) Walker III, Andretti Cage, Corey Cage, Harold
Cage, and Darrell Monroe, all of Las Vegas, NV, A legacy of other sisters and brothers;
many nieces, nephews, adopted children, other relatives, friends and many more too
numerous to name.
Harvey was preceded in death by his mother: Leanna Walker-Grimes, his fathers:
Edward Cage Sr. and Marshall P. Grimes, Grandmother: Leonia Moorehead, Brothers:
Edward Cage Jr., Karl (KC) Cage, and Johnny Walker, Sisters: Jearlean Cage Willett,
Maurice Jackson, Earline Thomas, Daughters: Summer Rowell and Teresha Walker,
Sons: Shomari Bingham and Aaron Cage; and grand-daughter, Diamond Coleman.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Harvey leaves behind a legacy of compassion,
resilience, and empowerment. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all
who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to a special nephew, Marvin
Walker, Chicago, IL, who has been a beacon of strength and support during this difficult
time. His love and dedication have been a source of immense comfort, and we are
profoundly grateful for his unwavering support.

condolences extended to us during this time of profound loss. Your heartfelt gestures,

compassion, has provided a measure of comfort during this difficult period.
While our Father’s departure has left a void in our lives, we find solace in the cherished
memories we hold dear. Your thoughtfulness and support have reminded us of the
enduring bonds of love and friendship that sustain us through life’s trials.
Please accept our heartfelt appreciation for your sympathy and support during this time
of bereavement. Your kindness will forever be remembered and deeply treasured.
