LB Banks Obituary

Mr. LB Brown Banks was born on April 13, 1945, in Humphreys, Mississippi, to the late Emma Brown and Mr. Watkins. He was one of eight children and was deeply loved by his family. In 1970, he met his lifelong sweetheart, Purla Durr, and together they built a loving home and raised six children. Purla preceded him in death.

In 1980, LB relocated his family to Grand Rapids, Michigan, in search of better opportunities and a brighter future.

LB was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. Known for his playful sense of humor, he brought laughter and joy wherever he went. To his family, he was a steady and faithful presence, always showing up when it mattered most, through both good times and bad. His love was unwavering, and his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

On July 4, 2025, LB Brown Banks peacefully transitioned from this life. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, one grandchild, Jamyrikle Sewell, two great-grandchildren, Kamaron Garrison and Ca'Ron Matthews, and his brothers, JB Kimp, Cornell Brown, Johnnie Gibson, Clarence Gibson, and Walter Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memory mother-n-law: Martha Lee Hall, two sisters: Odessa (Barney Jr. Forham), Minnie Ingram(Mack, also deceased), six children: Irma Askew, from Indiana, Emmanuel(Nilda), James Israel, Patricia(Auther Sewell), Robert Durr, Brian Durr, and Christina Durr all from Grand Rapids, Michigan, 32 grandchildren, and 41 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by a host of beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends, far too many to name, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

LB Brown Banks will forever be remembered for his love, laughter, and legacy. He will be truly missed but never forgotten.
