Lizzie Lorene (Flournoy) Joplin was born on June 7, 1930 in Jackson, Tennessee to the late Oliver Flournoy and Geneva Flournoy. Lizzie went home to be with the Lord on May 27, 2024. She was preceded in death by he parents Oliver and Geneva Flournoy, and her loving daughter Rita Renee McKnight.
Lizzie attended high school in Jackson, Tennessee. In the early 1960’s, she relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan where she began her mission of being a senior companion to many in the area.
Lizzie loved the Lord and became an active member at Messiah Baptist Church. She loved her church and her church family.
Lizzie leaves to cherish her homegoing her sons—Rufus J. Joplin, Steven W. Joplin, Henry A. Brown and Rozell R. Taylor; her grandchildren—Trina Johnson, Chitongna Willis, Montese Johnson, Shanika McKnight, Terrell McKnight, Art Brown, Veronica Starks, Torrie Starks, Iriale Joplin, Dorian Taylor, Chole Taylor and Pharrell Taylor; a host of nieces, nephews and friends; and her beloved bonus daughter—Janet Dempsey.
Lizzie will be truly missed. And let’s not forget one of her favorite sayings, “I don’t have no lying tongue.”
