Samuel Hasan Obituary

Samuel Ahmad Hasan 79, of Grand Rapids, Michigan departed this life on
February 29, 2024.
Sam was born (Sammie Lee Peterson) on September 23, 1944 in Birmingham,
Alabama to Lillie Mae (Birt) and Willie Lee Peterson. His family later migrated
north to Grand Rapids, where Sam grew up one of 11 children. In his early years
he enjoyed playing the piano, saxophone and trombone. Sam graduated from
Central High school and went on to work at Sparta Foundry, Pantlind Hotel, Forest
View Hospital and retired from Calder City Taxi. He met his life partner, Mary
Elizabeth Bryant in Winter of 1980, and remained his closest friend and confidant
for 34 years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed praying, reading, exercising, watching
documentaries and thrillers, and spending time with family.
Affectionately known as “Silent Sam” by his friends and co-workers, he was
known for his honesty, straightforwardness, and unwavering support. He was a
loving father who prioritized guiding his family toward happiness and health,
steering them away from his own past mistakes. Though he won't witness future

pleased with him and reward him with Jannah (Paradise).
