Stanley Dolly Obituary

Stanley Dolly, born on May 17, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Isaac Sr. and Alma (Libbett) Dolly, embraced life with a joyful spirit and a heart full of love. He peacefully departed this world on Sunday, August 11, in Byron Center, MI, surrounded by the warmth and love of his children, grandchildren, siblings, and cherished friends.

Stan, as he was affectionately known, was one of nine siblings and a devoted brother. He grew up in Grand Rapids, attending South High before graduating from Union High School. His adventurous journey began shortly after, when he enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably from 1971-1974 as a combat engineer.

Upon returning home, Stan proudly pursued higher education at Aquinas College. Stanley married Patricia Weatherall, and together they were blessed with two children. His military service took him across the country, but he eventually returned to Michigan, where he made Grand Rapids his home. Later, he married Michelle Laitinen, lovingly embracing her children as his own. Together, they expanded their family with the births of their younger children.

Stan found fulfillment in his work with the United States Postal Service for over 30 years, where he dedicated his career as a mailman, supervisor, and postmaster before enjoying a well-deserved retirement. Even in retirement, he remained closely connected with his work family, cherishing the relationships he built over the years.

Stanley's love for his family was boundless, and it was mirrored in the love they had for him. His smile could light up a room, and his laughter was infectious. Through every challenge, including his battle with cancer, Stan remained steadfast in his positivity, never letting life’s difficulties dampen his spirit. Even on his toughest days, he was grateful for the life he lived, never once complaining, always choosing to see the beauty in every moment.

In 1994, the peaceful charm of Newago County called to Stan, and he eagerly answered. He moved his family to the serene, rural area of Woodland Park, where he made his home in a beautiful lakefront chalet. It was there that he found solace and joy until his final battle took him away from the place he cherished most.

Preceded in death by his parents, his big brothers Isaac Jr and Jessie Dolly and sister Minnie (Dolly) Farris. He is survived by his children Stanley Nicole, Patrick (Ann), Theis, Laura (Robert), Angela, Monique (Josh), Shaheem, Zura (Brittany), Amaris and Lexus. His sisters Annie Beckley, Mildred (William) Brown, Beverly (Tyrone) Guy, Sandra McGlothin and Sheila Dolly. A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members, friends and co-workers. He is also lovingly remembered by his cherished Woodland Park and Bitely communities.

Stanley Dolly’s legacy is one of kindness, joy, and an unshakeable zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who loved him.

Rest well, Stanley Dolly, Stan, Stan the Man, Brother, Uncle Dan. Our love for you goes beyond what words can express. You will always leave an irreplaceable void in our hearts.
